PRIMARY SECTOR

Agriculture

Rice planting in the two rice producing barangays of the municipality peaks during the months of March, July and October, when water for irrigation is sufficient. Because of the major rehabilitation of the two-diversion dam (Lantic I and Lantic II) and concreting of irrigation canal, most especially in Barangay Lantic, water from rivers are efficiently collected and directed to the various communal and private lots. Harvesting in Barangay Maduya and Lantic were at its highest yield during the months of February, July, October and November, when weather conditions are favorable.

Rice farmers managed to have an average harvest of 4.51 metric tons per hectare despite several typhoons and intensified southwest monsoon which caused severe flooding and logging of newly planted rice as well as affecting flowering and ripening rice grains. Total production volume is about 1,143.55 metric tons valued at 22,970.89 cavans harvested from 245.3 hectares of land. This is relatively lower than the 1,666.32 metric tons valued at 33,310 cavans harvested from 322.99 hectares of land in 2018. Various vegetable and fruit seedlings were distributed to farmers of Barangays Lantic, Mabuhay, Milagrosa and Bancal under the BALIK BINHI Program in 2019. Additional agricultural support facilities were also constructed including the 1,110 meters of irrigation canal at Brgy. Lantic, Carmona, Cavite-National Irrigation Authority.

As of 2019, there are six major crops produced at different barangays and is being market to the residents of the municipality. The highest volume produced was noted for rice-irrigated crops with 1, 143.55 metric tons amounting for 19,440,350.00; followed by corn with 474.4 metric tons produced at a value of 4,744,000.

Meanwhile, permanent crops like mango and banana got the least production volume this year. Mango has only 264.5 metric tons with a value of 6,612,500.00, while banana has 121.23 metric tons produced at a value of 1,454,760.00. Each agricultural crop is being sold locally which means the residents of the municipality as well as its nearby province are the target market.

Below is the table of comparative agricultural areas and production for the last three (3) years (2017, 2018, and 2019). Six major crops currently exist in the municipality wherein rice-irrigated crops remain to have the highest volume produced, while banana got the least production volume in 2019. The total area for the following crops was recorded and implied that every year it varies, either increasing or decreasing in number. From the table above, the production area for corn increased to 47.5 hectares in 2019 from 23.5 hectares in 2017.

The graphic below shows the comparative data of major agricultural production for the last three years based on the total production volume produced for each crop. Corn showed a significant increase in its production volume from 95.6 in 2018 to 474.4 metric tons in 2019.

On the other hand, rice and banana showed the least production volume in 2019. The relative decrease in the production volume of rice can be attributed to the conversion of agricultural land into commercial areas, resulting in the loss of available lots for farming and planting crops.

2 LIVESTOCK & POULTRY

The supply of some livelihood and poultry products are produced by backyard poultry/ piggery situated in different barangays. Livestock and poultry farms produced in 2019 are relatively higher compared to the previous record of 460.5 metric tons. There is no slaughterhouse in the municipality to monitor the supply of meat in the local market.

Currently, there are five (5) existing livestock farms and two (2) poultry farms in the municipality. The existing livestock farms have raised pigs, cattle, carabao, horses, and goats, while poultry farms raised chickens and ducks. Consumers from local/municipal and outside markets can buy pigs, cattle or cows, goats, chickens, and ducks.

The graph above shows the total production volume for carabao, piggery, cattle, and goat farms that exist in the municipality. The highest production volume belongs to cattle farms with 266 metric tons, followed by piggery farms with 192 metric tons, while goat represents 12%, equivalent to 61 metric tons. The lowest production volume, on the other hand, was carabao, with only 9.6 metric tons or 2% of the total composition. Fifty (50) percent of the livestock farms depend on cattle production (cows), which demand is highly-attributed to the consumers from local and outside the municipality.

Poultry farms, on the other hand, have a total production volume of 15.84 metric tons that is equivalent to a production value of 1.406,400, of which 13.87 metric tons valued at 1,248,800 are chickens, while 1.97 metric tons valued at 157,600 are from duck farms. Farms raising chickens have the highest production volume and value, representing 89 percent of the total composition since consumers inside and outside the municipality prefer chicken rather than ducks.

The table above shows the current demand for agricultural products to which rice remains to have the highest demand from the consumers. Due to the increasing population, the demand for rice production will likewise increase as it is the main source of food consumed by the people in the municipality.

There are 1,761 rural workers composed of rice farmers, crop farmers, livestock farmers and poultry farmers in 2019. This is relatively lower compared to the previous record of 1,899 rural farmers. Rice and crop farmers belong to the minor occupation group, while livestock and poultry farmers belong to the major occupation group. Rice farmers are mostly found at Barangay Maduya and Barangay Lantic while crop farmers are located at Barangay Milagrosa, Lantic, Bancal, Maduya and Mabuhay.

Major occupation group like livestock farmers are located at Barangays 8-14 while poultry farmers can be found at fourteen (14) barangays.

Currently, the municipality of Carmona has 1,761 farmers from major and minor agricultural occupation groups, of which 752 (43%) are poultry farmers; 819 (47%) are livestock farmers, 130 (7%) crop farmers and the remaining three (3) percent are 60 rice farmers located at Barangay Maduya and Lantic.

Livestock farmers occupy the highest percentage due to the high demand for pork, cattle, and goat from the consumers. Poultry farmers followed due to the high demand for chicken from the naturally increasing consumers every year. Nevertheless, the crop farmers’ 8% representation corresponds to the production of fruits and vegetables, while rice farmers being stagnant at 3% representation is due to the decreasing number of lands or areas available for farming.

The table above shows the demand projection in metric tons for agricultural products exclusive for 11 years. A primary agricultural product like rice probably has the highest demand since it is the main source of food for the residents in the municipality.

IRRIGATION PUMP

Currently, the municipality has six (6) irrigation pumps and three (3) dams namely Prinsang Luma (Lantic 1 Dam); Prinsang Bago (Lantic 2 Dam); and Prinsa Lantic 3 Dam strategically located at Barangay Lantic.

Two (2) of these pumps were being operated through the use of diesel while the other four (4) are electrically operated.

THE SECONDARY SECTOR

INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENT

Industry refers to the production of an economic good (either material or a service) within an economy. There are three key industrial economic sectors: the primary sector, largely raw material extraction industries such as mining and farming; the secondary sector, involving refining, construction, and manufacturing; the tertiary sector, which deals with services (such as law and medicine) and distribution of manufactured goods.

Known as the investment hub in the Province of Cavite, Carmona has become the top choice of foreign and local investors through its high-quality infrastructure facilities and business-friendly services. In 2019, a total of 2, 724 business establishments were registered; 2, 405 of which are commercial and 319 are industrial. Majority of registered business establishments are in retail, services and manufacturing sectors. Among those industrial subdivisions, Golden Mile Business Park accumulated the most numbers of companies with 58, followed by 48 companies from People’s Technology Complex, and Mount View I Industrial Complex with 33 companies. Of the twelve (12) existing Industrial estates, 485 are registered locators and seven (7) are operating under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

There are twelve (12) existing industrial estates and 4 industrial compounds in the Municipality with 319 registered industrial companies in 2019. This is higher by 22.69% compared to the previous record. Moreover, companies outside these industrial estates and compound can be found along the stretch of Governor’s Drive.

Of the twelve (12) Industrial Estates existing in Carmona, four hundred eighty-five (485) are registered locators, and seven (7) are operating under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA). Two hundred nineteen (219) companies are involved in the manufacture of goods and products, while two hundred seven (207) are involved in commercial and industrial activities. On the other hand, fifty-nine (59) companies are classified as commercial with activities such as real estate, wholesale, retail & repairs, hotels & restaurants, canteens, financial intermediation, other communication, social and personal services.

The total number of registered industrial establishments for the year 2019 is three hundred nineteen (319). This is significantly higher than the previous year’s 260 industrial establishments by 22.69%. Barangay Bancal is noticeably the barangay with the highest number of inventories for the past five years, with 128 noted industrial establishments for this year, followed by Barangay Maduya with 101. The least magnitude, on the other hand, was charted at Barangay Milagrosa with five (5) industrial establishments.

A total of three hundred nineteen (319) industrial establishments exist in the municipality, composed of eighty-eight (88) MICRO; sixty-four (64) SMALL; eighty-two (82) MEDIUM and eighty-five (85) LARGE enterprises. These industrial establishments are all engaged in the manufacturing industry, located at barangays with bigger land areas like Bancal, Lantic, Mabuhay, Milagrosa, Cabilang Baybay, and Maduya. Moreover, few industrial establishments are also established at Poblacion Area (Barangays 1-8).

The highest magnitude of medium industry classification was charted at Barangay Bancal with 33 establishments, followed by 23 establishments at Barangay Cabilang Baybay. These medium industries were manufacturers mostly of food and beverages, cosmetic, metal, and rubber products. Large industries, on the other hand, were manufacturers and importer of garments, plastic products, cement bags, and toothpaste. The micro establishments consisting of Fabrication, Metal Craft, Sash Fabrication, and Aluminum Glass and Steel Works are commonly found in Brgy. Bancal. Lastly, small industrial establishments at Barangay Maduya comprise steelworks, fabrication, manufacturer of plastic garments, doors, and other wooden products.

INDUSTRY PER CLASSIFICATION

In 2019, there are 319 registered Industrial Establishments in Carmona. As per Industry Classification, these are composed of 88 (27%) Micro Enterprises, 64 (20%) Small, 82 (26%) Medium, and 85 (27%) are Large Scale Companies (ON Semicon & Rohm Electronics).

The graphic above shows the total number of registered industrial establishments per classification in Carmona for the past two years. This year, Industrial establishments belonging to micro-enterprises accumulated the highest number with 88, followed by 85 large-enterprises. Medium enterprises, however, declined due to the omission of some companies that do not produce and manufacture goods, including trading, warehouse and storage, logistic, contractor, construction, realty, truckers, and haulers.

The table shows the distribution of commercial establishments in different barangays within the Municipality. Barangay Lantic has the highest rate of increase in commercial establishments at 29.49%, followed by Barangay Milagrosa at 8.07%. Therefore, an overall increase of 4.11% or an additional ninety-five (95) commercial establishments recorded in 2019.

The graph above shows the total number of commercial establishments located in fourteen (14) barangays. These were the combined numbers of different types of businesses including wholesale trade and retail, hotel and restaurant transport and storage, communication establishments, financial intermediation, real estate renting and business activities, public admin and defense, education, health and social work, other community, social and personal services.

Currently, Barangay Maduya has the highest number of registered commercial establishments with 682 establishments, followed by Barangay Mabuhay with 454 establishments, while the least number of existing registered commercial establishments can be found at Barangays 1 to 8 (Poblacion).

WHOLESALE AND RETAIL TRADE

The wholesale and retail trade sector is composed of establishments engaged in wholesaling and retailing merchandise, without transformation and rendering services incidental to the sale of merchandise. The wholesaling process is an intermediate step in the distribution of merchandise. The retailing process, on the other hand, is the final step, where retailers sell the goods in small quantities to the general public. This sector comprises two main types of retailers: store and non-store retailers. Trading activity is the major line of business in Carmona, which accounts for 995 wholesalers and retailers for the year 2019.

The graph above shows the trail of wholesale activity in fourteen (14) barangays. To date, Barangay Maduya has the highest record of wholesale and retail activities within the municipality, with 27% (263) of the total composition. Barangay Mabuhay came next with 17% (174), Barangay Lantic with 16% (157), and Barangay Milagrosa with 12% (121). The least number of wholesale and retail activities, however, was recorded at Barangays 1 to 8 (Poblacion).

FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

There are 69 financial institutions broken down as follows: Twenty (20) banks, fourteen (14) pawnshops, nine (9) lending institutions, sixteen (16) multi-purpose Cooperative, and ten (10) other financial institutions. Barangay Maduya occupies the highest percentage of financial institutions due to its strategic location.

The graph below shows the comparative data of 2018 and 2019 financial institutions in Carmona. Pawnshops and lending institutions have noticeably increased this year while Multi-purpose cooperative and other financial institutions showed a decline in number. Furthermore, the number of existing banks in the municipality remained to be the same for the past two (2) years.

PERSONAL SERVICES

Service enterprises are organizations that facilitate the production and distribution of goods, support other firms in meeting their goals and add value to our personal lives.

The Municipality of Carmona through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) provides various livelihood and skills training programs to entrepreneurs. Financial assistance is likewise extended for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development.

There are 243 establishments engaged in the community, social and personal services in the municipality. Personal services included 14 barbershops; 13 beauty parlors; 15 Spa’s; 6 Gyms; 15 laundry shops;3 Funeral Parlors; 4 photo/video shops; 13 tailoring/dress shops; 49 water refilling stations; 39 computer rental/internet café; 21 printing shops; 22 Repair Services; and 29 Construction Services.

The graph above shows the total number of social and personal services for two consecutive years. It is noticeable that the number of Funeral Parlors and Photo/Video Shops remained the same while the other establishments engaged in personal services have either increased or decreased in number. One of which is the number of refilling stations and printing shops that increased to 49 and 21, respectively.
