Carmona concludes Sorteo Festival 2010

Sorteo Festival 2010February 22. The lottery and the week-long Sorteo Festival end today with hundreds of winners celebrating their victory from different events held from February 16 to 22 in Carmona, Cavite.

Sorteo Festival drew thousands of visitors from different parts of Cavite and the neighboring provinces to witness the different festivities staged during the week-long festival, which started with the symbolic Hampas Palay ceremony led by Municipal Mayor Roy Loyola, Sorteo Festival 2010 Chairperson Dra. Dahlia Loyola, Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi, Festival Commissioners Dr. Amelia Catalan and Dr. Teresita Fortuna and Guest of Honor Tingting Conjuanco, on the dawn of February 16.

Also there during the opening ceremony were the Commissioners of the Sorteo Festival Commission, Board Member Recto Cantimbuhan, GMA Mayor Walter Echevarria and Silang Councilor Ari Velazco. After the Hampas Palay ceremony, different sectors, participants, performers and floats paraded around the Carmona Poblacion. During this day, the competitions Bahay Mo, Gayak Sorteo, Float Competition and Hataw-Galaw, Indak Sorteo illuminated the streets and the town plaza with intricate colors and creativity. In the evening San Miguel Corporation facilitated and sponsored the Battle of Bands which coincided with the Bb. Sorteo Pre-Pageant Night at the Manila Southwoods Sports Club.

Sorteo Festival 2010During the 2nd day, elementary pupils from the 8 public elementary schools of Carmona showed down their beats during the Drum and Lyre Band Competition; where visiting PNPA cadets and the Philippine Marine Corps Band exhibited their exemplary choreography and chords. The 12 Bulilit and Main Portion finalists of the Gintong Tinig, Gintong Himig Amateur Singing Contest faced off in the grand finals held in the evening.

A Sorteo Misa ng Pasasalamat celebrated by Bishop Chito Tagle of the Diocese of Imus began the 3rd day which filled up the St. Joseph Parish. Karakol sa Sorteo started right after the mass where 36 competing and participating Karakol groups from Carmona (15 groups), towns of Cavite and Laguna (21 groups) exhibited their own rendition of street dance for their respective Patron Saints. The town plaza was jam-packed until the afternoon as more Carmonians came in to watch the Gay and Lesbian and Basketball with Kapamilya Stars exhibition games. The Kapamilya Team who emerged victorious against the Carmona Selection was composed of actors Gerald Anderson, Rayver Cruz, Andrei Felix, Aaron Villaflor, Jose Sarosola, Rodjun Cruz, Xian Lim, Sergio Garcia, RJ Calipus, Gerard Acao and Fred Payawan. The Sorteo Binggo wrapped up the festivities in the town plaza until the evening. During the same evening, the 10 Outstanding Carmonians and 9 Adopted Sons and Daughter of Carmona were awarded and recognized at the Gabi ng Parangal held at the Manila Southwoods Sportsclub.

More than 1,200 job hunters joined the Sorteo Jobs Fair held during the 4th day at the Oregano Covered Court, Barangay Maduya from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon, where 30 local companies and 10 overseas manpower agencies opened opportunities for qualified seekers.

The much-awaited Bb. Sorteo Coronation Night and Grand Opening of the Lottery crowded the town plaza and municipal grounds with supporters, sponsors, families and audience during the evening where former Senators Franklin Drilon and NEDA Executive Director Ralph Recto came as guests of honor.

19-year old Anne Janelle Carasig won the Bb. Sorteo 2010 title with Regaille Laine Pepito as Bb. Sorteo 1st runner up, Genevive Tan as Bb. Sorteo 2nd runner up, Maria Josefa De Guzman as Bb. Fireworks lit up the skies to signify the grand opening of the Sorteo ng Bukid ng Bayan at 2 in the morning of February 20; where the Municipality of Carmona also marked its 153rd founding anniversary. A total of 9,738 legitimate sons and daughters of Carmona joined the 3-day simultaneous raffle, of which 109 parcels of agricultural land, 125 swerte of P35,000.00, 19 swerte of P500.00 and 4 swerte of P100,000.00 were at stake. The agricultural lands are awarded to the raffle or auction winners, which they can cultivate and utilize for three years, rent-free. On the next run of Sorteo Festival on 2013, the same lots and more cash will be raffled off to qualified participants.

Carmona, through the leadership of Mayor Roy M. Loyola, projects itself as the “Center for Investment and Sports” in CALABARZON at the same time; it aims to attract visitors not just to invest, to relax and be fit but also to experience its intricate culture in sights and sounds through the triennial Sorteo Festival.
